# Capital K9s

These dogs undergo rigorous training and annual certification, with careers typically lasting 5-10 years. The Capital K9s organization, a non-profit, exclusively relies on donations to fund the acquisition, training, specialized vehicles, and veterinary care for these working dogs, as taxpayer funds only cover handler salaries. The K9 Unit responds to 800-1,000 calls annually, with tracking and narcotics detection being the most frequent requests.
